Wow, today was...interesting. Okay it wasn't really that bad, until Cub Scouts tonight. Good things...I didn't have to work today! I cleaned the living room and part of the dining room. Did some laundry and dishes. Kaden commented on how clean the house was when he came home from school :) Such a good kid! And then he later wanted to know what I do all day when I don't clean. he was hinting that I should play Mario Kart, lol. I got a FTF on a geocache this afternoon. I was working on awards for scouts tonight when I got a message there was a new one 1.5m from out house. I was almost beaten to it, as I came across a fellow cacher on the trail. But I was able to spot and grab it first!
What else...scouts. Here's the down part! For a while I have been considering stepping down from being a scout leader next year. I'm running out of steam from doing so much for my den and pack. I don't feel my ideas are right for my kids. They're all a more high energy group and I'm more of a sit down crafty gal. I've got meetings that go over great and I think for the most part the kids have a blast. Heck, I've only lost 1 kid and that's because he moved. So I must be doing something semi right. On the other hand, I have half my boys who haven't earned their badge yet, a couple who don't seem to have much interest in doing them at home. And sports are beginning to take importance over scouting. We sent home flyers this week at school to invite more kids to join. I had 2 that would be in my group. And oh boy, they are handfuls! When I saw them walk in, I knew for sure I would be stepping down next year. I only have 2 more meetings this "scout year" and 1 might be cancelled due to the fact that our school is putting on a big ice cream social the same night as out meeting. I can take that as an easy way out. But I don't want to give up on the kids. I know there are a few who really do like coming and doing the things we do. And I know if I quit, a couple would drop out and I don't want that. I also have no clue who might take over for me. It's just gotten to be very stressful, not fun anymore.
On a good note...Salem and Kaden both earned some badges tonight. Let's see. Salem earned his bicycling sports pin, his Webelos Traveler and Athlete activity pins. Kaden earned his Map & Compass belt loop and pin. His bicycling sports pin and a silver arrow point. I think that's all.
They also started their candy bar fundraiser!! (HINT HINT HINT!) Candy bars are $1 each and there are alot of different flavors. Kids want to go to scout day camp this year, so we'll see what they can't sell. The kids always welcome checks to go towards ther activities :) They'll even send a thank you note, because I am pushing them to write since they hate it so much!
It was very chilly today! Salem wore only his sweater jacket to school. Ah, he paid the price though! We hit mid 40's today and add the extreme wind, even colder! I was still sleeping when he left for school, so I wasn't sure he even wore anything. He usually checks the weather in the morning, but didn't today. He'll be sure to from now on!
Okay, it's late, I'm exhausted!
