Today was NOT the day we wanted to be windy! Honestly, we can do without most of the wind we get here in Iowa. But today especially was not the day for it.
Why you ask? Keith decided a few days ago he wanted to do a road race today. It is in conjunction with the Old Capital Crit going on tomorrow. A weekend of racing fun they say. Yeah fun when it's not 25-35mph winds!
One good thing, we were able to sleep in a little bit this morning. Didn't have to leave the house until 9am! Same thing tomorrow.
We got to the race start and waited for a whle before Keith actually got out and started warming up. The boys and I stayed in the car the whole time except when he started and rode by during the race. It was too windy and too cold too pointless stand outside during their 40 minute laps. They did have to call am abulance again at this race! The Master guys went off before Keith's Cat 5 race and one guy was blown off the road and went endo into a ditch! Ouch! The race official decided to let the Cat 5's start and just roll nicely until after they passed the ambulance. Okay cool, no prob. A couple minutes later I look up and see them all coming back to the start line. HUH? There was 2 ambulances and a sheriff car completly blocking the road, so the official turned them around and the guys had to wait for the road to clear. So back at start I grabbed a blanket for Keith to wrap up in and try to stay warm. Other guys were ducking behind cars to try and block the wind. Not fun I'm sure for their legs. It was almost a 30 minutes delay before they could start. Race went well though. They did 2 laps that were 13 miles each. Keith ended up in 13th place out of 24!
Not much else exciting going on here. It's a racing weekend!!! Hopegully tomorrow the rain will hold off and we'll get some good racing going on. The boys want to wear their biking clothes, but it's only going to be in the 40's so I don't think they'll be able to. Oh, we went to Scheel's (a sports store in Coraville) this afternoon on the way home. Kaden found a bike he likes and it was a good fit. Little more expensive than what I wanted to spend on his bike. It was $300 on sale. But it was a Specialized, great brand and not too heavy. We'll still look around. I'm not pleased with the selection from the one local bike store. We might end up ordering online, but I'd like to get a little more personalized service. We'll see, still have time.
