Teeth update

Went to the dentist yesterday morning. They did the tapping test on my teeth and the ice test as well. Came to the conclusion tooth #14 (back molar) was 99.9% dead. The swelling not sure since it is not coming directly from the tooth, but more in between #14 and 15. So this dentist says I need to go see an endodontist, great! The nurse is wonderful and is able to get me in at 11am! At first the place said the 30th! Um, no way, I can't wait that long! So she got a little "tough" and they found an opening same day, yeah! Came home ate some eggs (nice and soft) and headed out.

Dr. Peek (endodontist) is very nice, amazing what a REAL dentist is like! I may have to go to real ones more often! The nurse takes an xray to show the full damage of the tooth. They do the ice and tap test again, still nothing on the #14 tooth. Then we go straight into a root canal. He only cleaned out the root, did not fill it due to all the swelling. I go back in 2 weeks to finish it up. I am on an antibiotic to get the swelling down, hopefully that will start kicking in soon! The root canal was actually quite pleasant. I don't mind the work being done, in fact I could have fallen asleep if I wouldn't have had to keep my mouth open, lol! He was very thorough in cleaning the root, very different from my last one!

I had to go into work afterwards. My mouth was all numb, but that's okay. I was covering for a gal who was being a sub teacher and I was to be with a kid in that same class, so it was all good. She knew what was going on with my teeth and in fact her DH is our kids dentist. I asked her for some recommendation on dentists and the guy I saw is her neighbor. Small world I guess. Work was easy, but once my mouth came un numbed, ouch!!!

I still have tooth pain. In fact it is back to a high level of pain due to the work done on it. He said it will get worse before it gets better again, darn it! Although I have been sleeping for about 3-4 hours at a time at night. Waking up to pain and taking some tylenol. No more orajel as it's not helping the gum pain. Last week it was 1-2 and then up for an hour, so not much sleep then. I've found frozen capri sun packs work very well as an ice pack, they are angled so I can sleep on them and they hit my jaw just right.

I'm hoping in a few days the swelling will be gone, I'll be so glad when that happens! I've been trying to think of how I can describe it. I think if you stick a wad of chewing gum (the big kind) up in the side of your mouth in the back and keep it there, that might be similar. And then add in a bunch of pain! I don't recommend trying this at home!
