Pumpkin fun!

Tonight we finally got time to start carving our pumpkins. I've got this awesome scooper that gets all the goop off the insides. I had it last year but must not have used it right or something. It rocks, I've got a nice smooth pumpkin on the inside! I love it! Had to help the kids use it right though. I started on a couple small pumpkins I had, then got my big one all cleaned out. I didn't carve mine, I'll do that tomorrow. Still have to think how I want to carve them. Kaden started in on his, got it all cleaned out and drew on the one side then realized he messed up. Kid was using a sharpie, so he had to carve the back of him pumpkin. It worked out okay though. He wasn't sure what he wanted to carve, didn't want a face, but wanted to carve something tonight. He ended up carving BOO in the pumpkin. Or he carved the two O's and I did the "B". Still need to add the insides of the letters to make it "perfect" according to him. Keith cleaned and carved his. He carved a bike into his pumpkin. Looks pretty cool for all free hand drawing!
Salem...oh man, Salem and pumpkins are not a good match! He always is good for entertainment during carving time!! I video taped it this year and going to try and upload it so you guys can see and chuckle. Salem freaks out so bad about touching the stuff, about the smell and heaven forbid any get on him. Does that make us back off from making him carve it himself? Nope! We make it worse for him...sorta. Mean us, but Salem laughs too. This year he had a glove on and we found a dusk mask for him to wear. It wasn't so bad then! Salem just emptied out his pumpkin, not sure of what he's carving in it, if anything. We'll work on them tomorrow after school. For what's it worth, we all did wear a glove to pull the guts out. They were SO cold and the rubber glove helped a bit. Kaden did grab in a few times with his bare hands. Salem no chance at all! last year he didn't even want to do it with a glove, so this is an improvement!

The worst part for Salem is we have a pumpkin gut fight each year...started that last year with Kaden and myself. This year Keith was home to join in on it. Salem freaks and screams and eventually we let him go. Kaden loves it, even when we get it on his face. Salem got some on his face and thought he was going to have a heart attack! I didn't get that on tape, darn! I guess Salem might have nightmares of pumpkin guts chasing him though, oops.

It was all fun and hopefully the guts come off their shirts. We went to Michaels and the kids bought new white t-shirts and drew on them with Sharpies to make homemade jerseys. They made a team name and wrote sponsers all over it. It was Kaden's idea. While we were at Michaels he came up with a bunch more projects he wants to do. I said one at a time kid!

So tomorrow we'll finish carving and be all set for Halloween. Out of the 7 houses on our street only us and 1 other house have pumpkins this year. I might take one of my small ones over to our neighbor across the street and set it on her front porch, we'll see.
