Monday night started up Cub Scouts again for the school year. It was to be a parent meeting to get parents to sign up for all the open spots we have. As usual (and figured) it was a mess. Starting from getting emails from the cubmaster wife (jenni) at 4:44pm from her in marshaltown, which meant either she wasn't coming...or they'd be late, like always. I get a text from her around 5:30 asking if I can go to the store and pick up stuff for the kids to do tonight. She wanted a bunch of marshmallows and toothpicks so they could make towers. I knew I would be suckered into helping with the kids, which is why I didn't ask earlier what she had planned for them. So I had to hurry up with dinner for us so we could grab the stuff and be to the meeting on time. We arrived right at starting time, 6:30pm. Good thing the church was open so the parents could go in and sit. Jenni failed to check with the church, luckily we were able to have the meeting room. It wasn't a good way to start as they ended up being 15 minutes late. But the District Executive and another guy, can't recall his position was there and started the meeting for us. Jenni finally arrived and had me get the kids started, I told them to make whatever, although I guess Jenni wanted them to make towers, oh well, she should have taken them. It was a LONG meeting! A lot of the stuff didn't need to be covered right now and I think it could have been done a bit differently, but oh well, I'm not in charge. I saw a lot of parents leaving throughout the meeting, the kids were resteless and making a mess and we didn't get much accomplished.
We do have a Cub Master though!! Yeah for Justin!! He's a great guy and we almost lost him. His wife took their kids and left him for someone else in Indiana (I think that's the state), but Justin came back to help us out! We have a committee Chair which is me. Treasure is a new parent, and we have a popcorn chair! Oh I signed up Keith to be the Scouting for Food chair. He knows the area and can divide it up evenly, plus that means we get to sit instead of doing all the walking like before. But we will have to go out later with the boys to do their share, but we'll take the smaller job since the past 2 years we have been doing way more than anyone else. We do not have a Bear leader, that was my job, but I quit...I mean I stepped down to let another parent take the reins. I had 4 parents from my den there last night and non of them wanted to do it. I'm hoping the other option of having a couple parents lead will work. The first meeting is the 22nd and I'm not doing it! I'm emailing them later to see what they want to do.
Now we just need to get all these new people into their jobs and get our pack rolling again!!! Hopefully we'll be more organized and can have things done in advance! All is not lost in our scouting, I was ready to pack up and move on, but I'll stay and see how it goes.
