We'll see how long it takes someone to notice I've written anything :)
Last night were school conferences for the boys. I'll start off with Kaden since his was first.
Like always his teacher loves him, he's a great kid, does well in the classroom. He tends to chatter a bit, but he'll stop when she asks him too. Teacher isn't concerned about it since he does stop and he isn't a huge distraction. Grades, he ended up with all A's except an A- in Health and a B in Art. So yeah for Kaden! His reading skills are above the top, he can read 130 words per minute and at this stage they are wanting the kids to be reading 93. He's always been a really fast reader. His comprehension scores are also high at 92% (goal is 70%) so he's also understanding what he is quickly reading.
Kaden's math is pretty good, teacher said it is a lot better than what I was thinking. He's doing excellent in +, x, and / but struggles in - the same as last year. Seems he doesn't like to subtract things, only wants MORE of it, ha ha.
Otherwise teacher is very pleased how Kaden is doing in class, so that's good!! She also loves his name. Her younger son is named Caden as well, so I think that automatically gives my Kaden a bit of a bonus :)
Salem's turn. Since Salem rotates classes this year we were unsure how conferences would be held. They bring all the teachers to the gym and the parents line up to talk to the teachers they want to. I figured it would be a mad house, but it was actually not too bad. Short wait for some teachers, longer waits for others.
We met with Salem's math teacher first. I knew her as she taught at the elementary school a couple years ago when I subbed there. I've also ran into her at a couple school events. She's a very fun teacher/person and we get along well. Salem's math grade is his lowest at a B-, was a C+ but he brought it up just enough to squeak into that B spot. Still quite low and so I knew we'd have to figure out what the deal was. We got the scoop on his math and how the homework and classwork goes, so now if Salem abides by what we talked about his grade should be much better this next quarter!
Science is another one that was "low" grade with a B+. Not too bad and acceptable to us. His teacher loves/adores Salem! His class only has 17 kids in it so they are able to do a lot more versus the ones she has with 24 kids. She says Salem is a huge help in class, loves doing the experiments and learning! She says he had some problems at the beginning of the year with him being a bit too loud (has some bad choice friends in that class) but she and him had a talk and they have been good to go every since! She says she has seen big improvements in Salem and knows he'll continue to improve! So glad to hear another good report on him!
His other classes are all A's! He had some rough spots at the beginning of school by not turning in work or doing it late, but he has done much better. The parents have access to the kids grades (when the teachers post them) online and it's a big help to see how he's doing. Can't change the grades, but keeps us informed if we need to have a chat with him and the teacher.
So we were very happy with the reports from the teachers! All of them have no major concerns with the kids, which we expected.
