Crafty me!

My old sewing machine gets broken out from time to time. Usually it's to sew on scout badges. Not these past couple weeks. Okay yes it sewed on a ton of badges to catch up the boys uniforms. But I found a couple cool things I wanted to make, so I dusted it off and went to work!

First I made some padded covers for my camera. It can get quite heavy and the added padding is very nice. The covers also make it nice and soft against my neck versus the original Canon scratchy strap. Plus I can use any fabric to personalize it, cause we all know plain black has never been my style! So here are the 1st 2 I made. I have some other fabrics to make more including a bright pink oriental silky fabric! Keith says he won't use the camera with the pink ones on it, so I made the flame one just for him.

Second project was one I have had in the works since before Christmas. It's chalkboard place mats. I've had the fabric (special order) sitting in our bedroom since then, but never did anything with it. The boys had their fabric picked out months ago as well. Salem chose Tony Hawk fabric and Kaden chose a fabric that looks like a sheet of music. We saw some at a craft fair last fall and thought they were pretty cool! Problem was they wanted $25 for 1!! Yeah 25 dollars for one! I knew when they didn't have the prices anywhere it would be too much, so I overheard someone else asking and I thought I was going to collapse! Oh, but if you bought 4, you got 1 free. Um yeah we passed much to the kids disappointment! Found out I can make these for WAY cheaper! I'm guessing maybe $5 max per place mat! The most expensive part is the bias tape around the edge and the hardest part is cutting a straight line, lol.

Hum...what's next??
